Day 6 Uedera and Oishi

Posted by Drew Simons in Untagged

Uedera Koi Farm

I have been visiting Uedera Koi Farm regularly for the past four years and am liking his Koi more and more. Having bought many of his Shiro and Sanke with great results, you can see one of his Shiro's in the development section of the website. On this visit he had some excellent, value high quality Kujaku with superb white skin and pattern. Two other Kujaku also took my eye but with a very high price and one a recent winner at the Hiroshima Koi Show I settled for these two.

The following Koi were purchased 2 superb Kujaku and a Sanke with plenty of underlying sumi ,excellent beni and white skin a trait of Sadazo bloodline you can read more about Uedera and see his Female Sanke Oyagoi in my 2011 May blog.

Day 5 Takigawa and Oishi

Posted by Drew Simons in Untagged

Takigawa Koi farm

After two very cold days it was nice to see the sun and after 30 mins drive from my Hotel I was at Takigawa. Last year work had started on improving his outside ponds and new Koi house and it was good to see it completed ready for this years spawnings.

Takigawa was busy grading his Tosai g0-sanke , many breeders dont sell Tosai this early as they need to grade a couple more times, selecting their Tategoi to sell later or put in the mud ponds.

I had come to buy Karashigoi , this variety is the trend at the moment and have seen then at three farms in 5 days. Last year i bought some Jumbo Tosai and Tosai and needed to stock up again.

A box of 18cm Tosai were selected and 6 superb Female Karashigoi and Kigoi Nisai 50cm.

I will be back at Takigawa in April for his Gosanke tosai.

In the afternoon it was back to Oishi Koi Farm for some more Nisai varieties I had seen earlier in the week

Day 4 continued.... Oishi Tosai

Posted by Drew Simons in Untagged

The following Koi were produced by Oishi's best Female Oyagoi and all selected for their long term potential, selecting Tosai at this level is not easy but with a good understanding of the bloodline and experience of how beni developes in young Tosai it is a great challenge to take up.

1 2 3 4

5 6 7

All produced May 2011 and now 22cm , POA

Other Tosai bought included, Showa , Kujaku , Shiro Utsuri and Kohaku, pictures were not good so you will need to visit the shop to see them or keep looking on the website, Date for arrival of these koi will be posted as soon as i get it.

A short walk back to the main fish house and the following koi were purchased, the Shusui's have great skin and patterns and havingbought this variety from Oishi many times the hard water in England doesnt affect their colour. Oishi's Shusui grow very big. The kumonryu have jet black sumi and excellent white skin.

The Shusui's are 40cm - 45cm and the Kumonryu 35cm - 40cm

Shusui £395                                         Kumonryu £245

The rest of the day was spent at the New Fish House looking at some of this years Nisai and Sansai for customers,  I will post some pictures and videos later as negotiations are still ongoing..
