Day 4 Uedera

Posted by Drew Simons in Untagged

Going with us to Uedera was Masuya San a good friend of Uedera Sans father for many years, it is always interesting to learn of a farms history and how they have developed their bloodlines over the years, and Masuya knows pretty much the history of the Hiroshima breeders.

Uedera produces many varieties and is well known for his  Go Sanke and GinRin Varieties, the first pond netted was Tosai Sanke produced from a stunning 85cm Female Oyagoi.

Fantastic selection of Sanke , great skin and bodies chosen from over 300 Tosai. These koi are  produced from the same bloodline of the 2000 All Japan Grand Champion Sanke by Sakai Fish Farm.

Three Female Nisai 48cm produced from Sadazo Bloodline. POA

All the Sanke above are produced from this Female 85cm and absolutely superb white skin. This Sadazo bloodline together with Torazo and Jinbei are probably the three most famous lines of this variety.

Female Shiro Utsuri 45cm
Four Female Nisai Shiro Utsuri produced from Omosako Female Parent. The quality of the pictures are not good as we were a little rushed with so much to do in the afternoon. The white skin and developing sumi is very high quality and having bought many Shiro's from Uedera ( previous sold Nisai are still on the Koi for sales pages) the long term potential of these koi is excellent. The body shape and sumi on Uedera Shiro's is of the highest quality.

Another breeder that is also getting the benefit of Miracle Animal, this food suppliment is highly recemmended by many breeders all over Japan. After an excellent day at Uedera it was back to Oishi Koi Farm to prepare more tanks ready for another Spawning. Tomorrow I would be selecting the Sanke and other varieties that had been reserved .

Day 3 Takigawa

Posted by Drew Simons in Untagged

Back up and running again after a Web Site  programming problem below a few more High Grade Tosai purchased on Day 2

Yamabuki £30                                                                                Asagi £45      The Yamabuki  15cm ,all have very clear heads and high quality skin .Produced from the same Oyagoi as the ZNA 85cm cm Takigawa prize winner.

The Asagi and Gin Rin Asagi 15cm all have high quality scalation and clear heads. Not many breeders allow you to individually select their best tosai, every tosai on this trip have been selected by me for its long term potential and growth.

Shiro and Tancho Showa                                                    50cm Kikisui  £795

Excellent Shiro Utsuri and Tancho Showa 18cm, good bodies and sumi. The Kikisui is a 50cm Female Nisai  excellent white skin and great body.

.......................

Day 3

I arrived at Takigawa at 10am, the weather had changed from a very warm and sunny first two days to heavy rain and the forecast was for a very stormy week ahead with a Typhoon expect to arrive in a couple of days. Takigawa's facility is all inside so no problems for today.

These Jumbo Tosai are 35cm varieties Kigoi, Karashigoi Kohaku and Showa all female
  Kigoi £275 . Karashigoi,Kohaku and Showa £295.

A few other Tosai were purchased during the morning then after lunch a visit to  Tamaura Koi Farm unfortunately most of his Koi had already been placed into the mud ponds so no purchases were made.  There was time to check out a few of Oishi's mudponds located about 15miles from the farm, where these two Koi have recently been placed.

These Nisai were 54 and 56cm when placed in the mudponds.

This ponds holds 30 of Oishis best Kohaku and one of their best ponds for growth. These Nisai are expected to be 65cm at Harvest time. With Koi Waterlife's customers Koi in this pond I hope if time permits I will be back here in October.

Tomorrow a trip to Uedera,  a farm I visited for the first time 4 years ago and the producer of High quality Go-Sanke and Shiro Utsuri.

Koi Hunting Day 2

Posted by Drew Simons in Untagged

Day 2     Oishi Koi Farm

Another busy day for the farm, in the last two days  many of the Koi had spawned and it was time to remove the eggs and Koi and prepare the tanks for more breeding in a couple of days.

One of the Koi to be moved is this 82cm Doitsu Kujaku, no idea what she weighed but his, face indicates she was very heavy!

I have bought many Doitsu Kujaku produced by this Female and below are this summers selection all  Tosai and 18cm also a few , Shusui all these koi have been chosen for their skin and pattern and for sale at £50 each.

Masuya San of Masuya Koi Farm arrived with a truck full off Koi . This breeder works very closely with Oishi Koi Farm and all these Tateshita had been kept for me. Masuya was taking them to another koi house where I will select from in a couple of days.

I had to take a closer look , so quickly put three Sanke in a bowl, there  are many varieties, including Go-sanke, Matsuba, Kujaku, Shusui and Yamabuki , but it was the Sanke I was after. Masuya San said there were over 60 Sanke all produced from Oishi's 88cm Oyagoi.

After arriving at Oishi Koi Farm I went to see what is becoming one of their Famous Oyagoi after its feature in the Rinko Magazine in January 2010 when she measured 85cm. This was the second time Oishi Koi Farm has spawned this female and she now measures 92cm!

The Main Fish house for all of Oishi's spawnings and behind  you can see the finished 500 tonne New Koi house.
